Great presentation – I have a question though. What is the best format for preparing an eNewsletter? I can create in InDesign and convert to a jpeg or PDF – but I don’t want a huge file – people hate that. And I want it to be visible in the email – you see it right away rather than having to open an attachment. What do you recommend?

Nancy that’s a good question.
First, think about a text email. This is why.
A lot of people are not going to enable images in this enewsletter, or they’re going to want to view it on their phones.
By making it as simple as possible, using text first, you will enable them to get to the meat of what you want to say.
A lot of the top internet marketers use just a text email. There’s a reason they do this. It’s because they don’t want to take the chance that their message will get lost if the person doesn’t have images enabled.
I know having a nice design is important for marketing and branding, I generally use Aweber, some use Mailchimp, others use ConstantContact, but whoever you use, they should have an enewsletter template for you.
They will also automatically generate a text email for you.
When you do include pictures, just don’t forget to check out how that looks in every email client, including outlook, gmail, yahoo mail and msn.
I would not make your enewsletter a pdf or a jpg. Here’s why.
1. It takes longer to download, and people are impatient
2. The point is to be able to click on it and take people back to your website to donate or learn more about your cause.
