What is the ladder of engagement?

Footprint: The reach of their activities, both online and offline
Engagement: Readers engage with their content
Individual Behavior Change: Impact on users behaviors, purchase decisions, and daily lives that are in line with sustainability
Societal Change: Impact on society, policy discussions, and conversations that advance sustainable practices.

How can you get your nonprofit to start to use this ladder?

A1. Listening dashboard: Netvibes

A2. Generate engagement metrics: SproutSocial

A3. After 18-24 months, tie Social Media efforts with more petition signing, volunteers, and donations

A4. After another unspecified amount of time, help laws get enacted to help more people care about and work towards a solution that your cause deems important.

So, the first two steps seem simple, and the second two, much more complicated. How do you go from X to Z?
