This is the number one thing. If you can do this, you can overcome bandwidth issues, and other organizational issues. It means more than just being nice. It means be able to give some people a reason to try harder for you.

When was the last time your nonprofit was featured in the paper?
Ask your volunteers
What is your call to action like? Is it as good as Amplify Your Voice? If not, consider how to engage a volunteer, no matter what time of the day or night it is, with the skills that they possess right now. Do they like to blog? Make it easy for them to create a blog post about your organization. Do they want to get involved in your next phone-a-thon, special event, walk-a-thon? Then post the date and signup sheet there too. Make it exciting with pictures. Make it easy. They’ll come back again and again to keep working with you.
"Why do you go to work?"
It’s as if there were a wall. And on one side of the wall is this belief that not-for-profits and government exist for public service, and that they’re fundamentally altruistic, that they have a deeper purpose, and they’re doing good in the world, and they have pure motives. On the other side of the wall are corporations. And they’re just selfish and greedy. They have no purpose other than to make money.
